For climate funders
Begin with intact forest
Cerro Nara's primary rainforest holds substantial carbon in living biomass, roots, soils, and dead organic matter while continuously cycling water and energy through the regional atmosphere.
Its climate value also extends beyond carbon accounting. Forest cover cools the landscape, protects soils, moves moisture through evapotranspiration, regulates runoff, and helps maintain hydrological conditions through periods of extreme rainfall and drought.
Protecting an intact forest avoids the ecological debt created when complex old forest is lost and must somehow be rebuilt.
